Primary Care Physicians

Naturopathic Medical Doctors (NMD) are considered primary care physicians in the state of Idaho as well as 23 other states in the U.S. This means that licensed NMDs are able to order labs, imaging and medications as conventional providers and serve as an entry point into the healthcare system. As naturopathic primary care physicians, Dr. Toby and Dr. Casey also have the training to implement a number of additional tools such as lifestyle counseling, nutrition, supplementation, botanical medicine, homeopathy, mind-body medicine, physical medicine, specialized testing and more.

The advantage of having a naturopathic physician as a primary care provider or as part of your medical team means receiving longer patient appointment visits as well as the whole-person care centered approach. At the same time, NMDs also have the access to most conventional medical resources and abilities, which gives patients access to the many tools in their primary care tool kit.

Our physicians at CDA Acupuncture & Holistic Healing are unique as we do accept insurance as well as out-of-network benefits. Should our providers not be accepted by your insurance, we do accept self-payment as well. Learn more about our practitioners and staff below and call the front desk for availability and scheduling.

Carr Headshot

Dr. Casey Carr

Naturopathic Medical Doctor

Dr. Casey Carr is a licensed naturopathic medical doctor and she is beyond excited to join the community of Coeur d’Alene and our clinic operations. As a primary care physician, Dr. Casey has a love for the challenge of anyone and anything that walks through her door. She adds to our team her interests and passions of mental health, GI health, fertility essentials, pre- and post-surgery recovery, optimization of athletic performance and heart rate variability. She has additional training in nutrition, botanical medicine, mind-body medicine, pelvic floor therapy, and Bach flower essences. Dr. Casey believes in the miraculousness of the human body and the resiliency of the human mind and spirit. As such, she hopes to deliver empowering care to her patients that addresses not only the body, but mind and soul as well.

Dr. Casey graduated from Cornell University with a degree in Nutritional Sciences and pre-medical coursework. Having grown up in Buffalo, NY, she had never heard of Naturopathic Medicine until a yoga teacher in college mentioned her unique degree combination and her aim of using food as medicine seemed more fitting of a naturopathic doctor. Dr. Casey took five years in between undergraduate and graduate studies deciding which path in health and wellness to pursue while working as an active travel guide. She very intentionally chose naturopathic medicine for its rooted philosophy, wide variety of tools available for addressing patient needs and the ability to have more time with patients and hear their stories.

As a former trip leader for the active travel company Backroads, Dr. Casey has lived, hiked and biked all over the world from Alaska to Vietnam to Italy. She spent time interning and volunteering on farms of various kinds in a wide array of places to better understand where our food comes from and to connect with people, incredible meals and the land. She considers time outside a necessary determinant of health for herself and all of her patients. Dr. Casey wants to put the nature back into naturopathic physician as a crucial aspect for all human health. She is excited to call the mountains and lakes of Idaho her new home and getting to know the community in a meaningful way.
