Boosting Immunity Naturally with Frequency Specific Microcurrent (FSM)
By: Dr. LuAnn Roy, NMD
When it comes to strengthening the immune system, most of us think about diet, supplements, or stress management. But did you know there’s an advanced, non-invasive therapy that works with your body’s natural healing processes at the cellular level? It’s called Frequency Specific Microcurrent (FSM)—and it has been changing the way we approach health and healing.
What is FSM?
Frequency Specific Microcurrent is a gentle therapy that delivers tiny amounts of electrical current—so small that they mimic the body’s own natural electrical signals. Each frequency targets specific tissues or systems in the body. By “matching” the frequency of a problem area with a therapeutic frequency, FSM helps restore balance, reduce inflammation, and improve cellular repair.
A Brief History
While microcurrent technology has been around for decades, its therapeutic potential was rediscovered in the 1990s by Dr. Carolyn McMakin, who pioneered the use of specific paired frequencies. Since then, FSM has been used in integrative and sports medicine clinics worldwide to help with conditions such as chronic pain, inflammation, nerve injuries, fibromyalgia, digestive disorders, and immune challenges.
How FSM Supports the Immune System
Your immune system thrives when inflammation is controlled and your cells are communicating effectively. FSM has been shown to:
- Reduce inflammatory cytokines that weaken immunity
- Improve circulation and lymphatic flow for better detoxification
- Help balance the autonomic nervous system, lowering stress responses that suppress immunity
- Support recovery from viral or bacterial illness by enhancing tissue repair
Many patients notice faster healing, fewer colds, and greater resilience during stressful seasons when they incorporate FSM as part of their wellness routine.
What a Session Looks Like
An FSM session is simple, safe, and relaxing. Here’s how it works:
- Setup: Two warm, damp towels are placed gently on your body—often across your abdomen and back, or sometimes wrists and ankles. These act as conductors for the microcurrent.
- Application: Electrodes connected to a microcurrent device are attached to the towels. The practitioner selects specific frequencies based on your health goals—in this case, immune support.
- Experience: You’ll relax comfortably for 45–60 minutes. Most people don’t feel the current at all, though some notice a mild sense of warmth, tingling, or deep relaxation.
- Aftereffects: Many patients leave feeling calm, energized, and more centered. Over the following days, your body continues to respond as inflammation decreases and cellular repair is activated.
The Bigger Picture
FSM is not a replacement for healthy habits—it’s a complement. When combined with good nutrition, rest, movement, and personalized naturopathic care, it can be a powerful ally in keeping your immune system strong.
If you’re curious about experiencing FSM for yourself, I invite you to join me at our upcoming Open House on October 24th. I look forward to meeting you, sharing more about this incredible therapy, and answering all your questions in person!
